YELLOWSTONE: PAINT POTS

Happy Labor Day weekend everybody! Kevin and I are off to Idaho today, but I wanted to share Part One of our trip into Yellowstone (don't worry, lots more pictures to come...) Enjoy!

One of my most favorite things at Yellowstone were the "paint pots". Paint pots are "thermal features" caused by the earth's molten layer escaping to the surface. While I'm no scientist and this description is not exactly based on fact, paint pots are pretty awesome. The steam comes from the geyser basin and the color from the mineral deposits. The paint pots looked like a cross between a painter's brush water, a beautiful oil spill, an aerial view of a Caribbean island, and nature's attempt at a Jackson Pollock.  It was kind-of rainy during our visit, but the colors were still breathtaking! No wonder the bison frequent these hot spots during the winter months for a good facial!
